How have you been? I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to write back. You know how it is, between work and family stuff and every day things, the time just seems to get away from me. Aaargh! Ya know? I’m taking classes at night, too – working towards my master’s in economics. Ugh. Boring, right? Hopefully it’ll pay off.
Anyway, I enjoyed talking to you at Kim’s party, too. The things you were saying about memory and perspective were really fascinating. Is “fascinating” the right word? “Intriguing” might be better. Haha! I don’t know. What was the name of that book again? I’ll put it on my ever-growing list of books I need to read. I’m most of the way through Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead right now, and it’s making me want to re-read Hamlet, which I don’t think I’ve touched since high school (and I don’t think I finished then). If you haven’t read it before, you should. The Stoppard, I mean. I’m sure you’ve read Hamlet before.
There’s this crazy bird outside my window right now. (I don’t know why I’m telling you this; for some reason I feel like you’d appreciate it.) Anyway, it’s like nothing I’ve seen before: not quite so orange as an oriole, but not quite so red as a robin. And it has this call on a loop, every fifteen seconds, this sort of “bow-WHOOP!” But, you know, it’s not really like that at all. I think bird calls are impossible to express in written words. Maybe that’s how it should be.

Well, to respond to your email, I (obviously) don’t mind that you got my email address. Like I said, I really did enjoy talking to you. I feel like it’s only fair to say, though, that I’m not really looking for anything, um, romantic right now. I hope that’s not presumptuous of me. God, I probably sound like an egomaniac now. But I just got out of a big thing and… you know how it is. So I just wanted to get that out up front. But you should definitely drop me a line back, and maybe I’ll see you around or something. Okay?
